“New year, new you” is everybody’s favorite January mantra. Now, some of the real estate industry’s most prominent women seem to have taken that saying to heart, announcing major moves that are poised to have repercussions for both their new professional homes and the organizations they’re leaving behind.

From a long-time industry leader to a prominent exec to a reality star and her luxury team, 2025 is all about big names, big moves and big changes.

The National Association of Realtors announced that industry veteran Sherry Chris has come aboard as an independent consultant and special advisor to CEO Nykia Wright.

Chris’s record of industry service includes stints as COO for Coldwell Banker Real Estate, CEO of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate and ERA Real Estate, and nearly two decades at Anywhere Real Estate Inc.

“Sherry brings unmatched expertise and a unique, well-informed perspective on the real estate brokerage landscape, which will be critical as we enhance NAR’s collaboration with industry partners and drive stronger alignment across the sector,” Wright said in a statement.

“Her ability to build meaningful connections and offer forward-thinking perspectives will help guide NAR’s approach to meeting the complex and varied needs of the real estate community.”

RE/MAX President Amy Lessinger announces resignation

After less than a year at the helm, RE/MAX President Amy Lessinger has announced in an SEC filing that she will be stepping down. The filing gave no reason for Lessinger’s departure but notes that RE/MAX is conducting a search for a new president.

In a brief statement to Inman Wednesday afternoon, RE/MAX said it had accepted Lessinger’s resignation. The statement added that Erik Carlson, CEO of parent RE/MAX Holdings, will “assume her responsibilities until a successor is named.”

The statement did not say why Lessinger was leaving or what she might do next.

Tracy Tutor and her team leave Douglas Elliman for Compass

Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star Tracy Tutor and her 18-person team have left Douglas Elliman after a decade to join Compass. Tutor boasts nearly 25 years of industry experience, and she and her team have netted more than $4.5 billion in career sales.

“My brand has always been rooted in innovation and growth, and joining Compass aligns with my vision for the future of my business,” Tutor said in a statement. “This partnership will not only enhance my ability to serve clients in California and Texas but also enable me to expand my reach into new markets, elevate my team’s capabilities, and continue setting the standard in the luxury real estate industry.”

In the words of prominent entrepreneur and restaurateur Kenny Rogers, “You gotta know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em.” Leadership is as much about navigating in new directions as it is about holding a steady course.

Thinking of making a change in your real estate business? Inman contributors are offering up can’t-miss advice, strategies and inspiration to help you grow — and create the professional life you’re looking for.
